UFO Dad - a PlayStation Mobile game coming soon!

I am thrilled and proud to announce a game I’ve been working on with Kevin Oke, UFO Dad!

What is UFO Dad? ufodadannouncement

UFO Dad is a mash up of platforming and match 3 coming soon to PlayStation Mobile! Think varying degrees of Mr. Driller + Tetris Attack + Bejeweled + Sokoban. Development was initially largely inspired by Mr. Driller (a series Kevin loves), but over time the game has taken shape into its current form.

You’re a suburban dad, master of the grill, sufferer of male pattern baldness, and wearer of sandals with socks. Your homemade “wonder spatula” has attracted attention from those beyond the Milky Way - hungry aliens have come to abduct you and steal your scrumptious burgers!

How did this get started?

Kevin came up with the concept, and even made a small prototype before approaching me after we worked on PlayRank together. He’s great to work with, and I loved the game idea, and the potential to work on a PlayStation title, so off we went! It’s quirky, fun, and a throw-back to a more simple time 🙂

I’ve been doing all the programming, which started off as a prototype in Moai (since I wanted to try it out, and know lua quite well). That grew into our current build, which still runs on Moai for development, but runs on a custom reimplementation of a subset of Moai’s featureset on PlayStation Mobile (say that three times fast). Kevin likes to call it coder black magic 🙂

I’ll be posting more information about the game, and technical articles about challenges I’ve faced and how I overcame them.

Please sign up to the mailing list of the game, so we can let you know when the game is available, I would really appreciate it.
